Holidays we went on when I was a kid

My parents got divorced when I was quite young, so we never really did many holidays as a whole family, but I do remember going camping a few times. We never really had that much money when I was a kid, but we did have enough for a couple of cheap tents and some sleeping bags. I have great memories of driving off on a Friday after school, arriving somewhere in the middle of nowhere late on Friday night and trying to put the tents up . . . and then cooking under the stars on an open fire. We would then wake up early and go off and explore. It was always really fun, even if we sometimes got wet when it poured with rain!

The other kind of holiday we often used to have when I was a little bit older was boating holidays. The UK has a huge network of canals and you can hire barges and go on week-long or two-week-long holidays on different canals. It's a lovely way to spend a week if the weather is nice as the pace of the boats slows everything down and forces you to relax. We often used to rent boats like these ones:

We also went to the Norfolk Broads a few times. It's a really beautiful part of England. In fact, I'm going to take my daughter there for the first time next April. We've just booked a five-day cruise - and I'm hoping the weather will be nice.

Here's a video to give you some idea of the scenery there.

Anyway, really looking forward to hearing about the kinds of holidays you had when you were younger.

  3. Thanks to you both for your kind thoughtsand comments.

    I really appreciated it.

As you could probably see today, I'm feeling quite a lot better. My foot still aches a bit, but at least I can get back in the classroom and teach!
