Flavours of crisps

As you may remember, I didn't beleive Movluda this morning when she mentioned garlic-flavoured crisps . .. or Reina, when she talked about lemon-flavoured ones either.

However, I was clearly wrong.

I went to Wikipedia and found this:

* In Austria, garlic flavored potato chips are available.
* In mainland China, Lay's has introduced potato chips flavored in Chinese cuisine, world cuisine, and flavors such as cucumber.
* In Colombia, the five main flavors of chips are natural (ready salted), barbecue, chicken, mayonnaise and Limón.
* In Japan, flavors include nori & salt, consommé, wasabi, soy sauce & butter, garlic, ume, barbecue, pizza, mayonnaise, and black pepper. Chili, scallop with butter, teriyaki, takoyaki and yakitori flavored chips are also available. Major manufacturers are Calbee,[17] Koikeya[18] and Yamayoshi.
* In Mexico, many flavors are spicy. Popular flavors are salt, lime, habanero, 'Chile y Limón' and cheese.
* In Russia, popular flavors are plain (salted), onion, paprika, black pepper, and sour cream, more unusual varieties are bacon, shashlik, crab, and caviar. Both Lay's and Pringles brands are widespread. Russian companies like Perekrestok also manufacture their own chips.

Hi, I'm Riccardo!
I'd like to talk about the unique thing that I can't find in other countries.
Everybody know that I 'm from Italy, I grew up in a small town located in the region Marche.
The thing that I can find only in my region is a special salami called "Ciauscolo", which is often difficult to find in the other italian regions.
It isn't a normal salami because is soft, tasty and spreadble like a sausage.
I'd like to talk about "Ciauscolo", because when I was a child I used to go for a pic nic in the countryside with my parents and their friends, and we use to eat "Ciauscolo". This unique thing is one of the my favourite food and remember me my childhood.

My old band

You remember in class today I mentioned that years ago I used to be in a band?

Well, we made a few records for a German record label back in the late 80s / early 90s . . . and here's one of them!!!!!

My favorite movie "Elizabethtown"

I think it was about 3 years ago when I was impressed by one movie. The movie was called "Elizabethtown." The leading actor is Orland Bloom and leading actress is Kirsten Dunst.

This movie is American film and was released in 2005 in Japan. I didn't go to a theater but I watched it on DVD. I forget why I decided to watch it but when I did, I felt something which I have never felt before.
This movie is not an action movie, not SF movie. So, I was not excited watching it. However, I never get tired of watching this movie.

The script is not complicated. If I say the script, it can be following.
A man who made a serious mistake in his business went to his father's hometown and met several kinds of people. Then he met one woman and fell in love.

Story is simple. But somehow I can feel relax to watch it.
I strongly recommend you to watch it when you feel tired.

The movie that I most remember…

When I was teenager and I had my first boyfriend, I saw a movie Don Juan DiMarco. It´s a romantic comedy. It´s about a person that hi believe is the greatest lover in the world. He was in psychiatric treatment with a Doctor who wanted cure of his mental illness. But the psychiatric sessions had a strange effect on the psychiatric. For the Doctor, his patient went a good experience because with this case he can see his himself and he decided change the relationship with his wife.
So, I remember this movie because I´m fancy Jonny Deep and he is the principal actor of them.
Also, the sound band in this film is Bryam Adams so Hi´s my favourite singer.

By REINA

My favourite film

I don't really have one favourite film. I just really love movies - and I love going to the cinema. When I was growing up, the films that meant a lot to me were things like the early Martin Scorcese films - MEAN STREETS, RAGING BULL, TAXI DRIVER; things like Stanley Kubrik's A CLOCKWORK ORANGE . . . and then old cult movies like HAROLD AND MAUDE and IF.

I've always loved Kurosawa, the Japanese director, especially his movies starring the great star Toshiro Mifune; I love Hitchcock, I love early Roman Polanski, all that kind of stuff.

However, I think perhaps the two films which have moved me the most over the last ten years or so are both foreign indie movies - one from France and one from Japan.

The French one is called La Haine, which means HATE. It's shot in black and white and was made in 1995. I can't remember the name of the director, but the plot is basically about a day in the life of three young teenagers - a Jewish kid, a Muslim / Arab kid and a black kid - who all live in a horrible tower block in the suburbs of Paris. One of the guys ends up in hospital after a riot, but during the riot a policeman lost his gun. Another guy - Vinz - finds the gun and claims he will kill a cop if his friend in hospital dies. It's quite a tense, heavy film - a kind of thriller with social and political messages - but it's just amazing . . . and the ending is incredible. Really!

Here's the trailer for the film.
You can see more on YouTube.

The other film I really love is a Japanese movie by a director called Hirokazu Kore-eda and the English title is AFTERLIFE. It's basically about a place you go to after you die where they ask you to spend one week deciding on your best memory of the world. After one week, they make a short movie of this memory and put it into your brian and that's all you think about for the rest of eternity. It's a slow, lovely movie about what's important in life, how memory works, why film is important, the things we value, and so on. You can watch the whole thing on YouTube if you're interested. The first part is here:

Hope you like these two choices.
really looking forward to reading more about the films you love.

When I was a kid in holidays we used to visit ...

When I was quite young, me and with my family used to go to Villa de Leyva City. It´s close to Bogotá and the family of my Dad had a farm there. Many holidays went with whole family and other I went with my brothers and sisters.

This place was lovely because it has a lot of green and animals. I really enjoyed when riding a horse, playing football, walking in the morning and visiting others sites in the rural area near of the farm.

My dad liked went to a river that crossing the farm and he and my brothers often went swimming in the mornings before lunch as the woman went for shopping to the city. Also we went to desert close.

Before going back at home, we went to park and did boating, but my parents were careful with my little sister and me because They thought that this activity was dangerous for us.

This time went really nice and unforgettable for me…

Animals

I´m talking about animals that I like ...
The Eagle is the animal that I like most because it can tall fly and it´s free.

Other animal is the horse; I like to ride a horse sometimes in the countryside with my family or my friends.

Whenever I go to different places, l like to see animals as when I went to Riviera Maya in Mexico. There I can see Parrots, horses, butterflies another.

Also, I can tell you that when I lived in Barrancabermeja city, I had a dog. But my mum took care of it. His name was Lucas and it died two years ago in an accident.

Finally; the animal that I like least is the snake because I believe it´s ugly and dangerous for the people.

My favourite shop

My favourite commercial centre is Unicentro in Bogotá. It´s a big shop; also it has restaurants, cinemas, supermarkets, electronics shop, books shop, shoe shop, clothes shop another. I think their clothes are really good value, but somebody think that it´s expensive.

I like go to the shopping in the weekend because I can spend more time looking many stores.

I liked to buy shoes, boots and bags in this shop because every things are good quality. They are very well made so I´m happy with them.

My favourite brand is Velez, Santorini and Timberland, because his styles are comfortable, beautiful, fashionable and modern.

Also I liked to buy dresses for my job so in this shop I can find always every things of colours and styles.

Family holidays

This summer I went on holiday with my family. It was so strange because for 10
years I'd been going on holiday by myself, with my boyfriend or my friends!

My parents decided to go to Italy, in Abruzzo. It was nice, quiet and there were a lot of family, but for me was OK, because I went there to reflect about my future :)!!

It was so amazing because we had a big house and with us there were my uncles,
so I liked the love of family!

I relaxed, I was tanned so much and I ate too much as well ;)!

I'll go with my family if I'll free! I hope it!

Here are a couple of pictures of the area near Abruzzo.

Places my family and I used to go

Recently, I don't have much time to be with my family because of university and working.
When I was at primary school, I used to go for lunch to the hamburger shop on the coast with my family. That hamburger shop was Burger King! Anybody knows? I really liked to go there! When Saturday or Sunday came, my father used to say, "Let's go there!" As I liked the original one at Burger King, it was decided what I ordered every time.

After eating hamburgers, we used to go to the sea in front of the shop and take a walk along the beach. I also liked that time even in winter! My sister and I used to be absorbed in getting shells.
They're my sweet memories!

Holidays we went on when I was a kid

My parents got divorced when I was quite young, so we never really did many holidays as a whole family, but I do remember going camping a few times. We never really had that much money when I was a kid, but we did have enough for a couple of cheap tents and some sleeping bags. I have great memories of driving off on a Friday after school, arriving somewhere in the middle of nowhere late on Friday night and trying to put the tents up . . . and then cooking under the stars on an open fire. We would then wake up early and go off and explore. It was always really fun, even if we sometimes got wet when it poured with rain!

The other kind of holiday we often used to have when I was a little bit older was boating holidays. The UK has a huge network of canals and you can hire barges and go on week-long or two-week-long holidays on different canals. It's a lovely way to spend a week if the weather is nice as the pace of the boats slows everything down and forces you to relax. We often used to rent boats like these ones:

We also went to the Norfolk Broads a few times. It's a really beautiful part of England. In fact, I'm going to take my daughter there for the first time next April. We've just booked a five-day cruise - and I'm hoping the weather will be nice.

Here's a video to give you some idea of the scenery there.

Anyway, really looking forward to hearing about the kinds of holidays you had when you were younger.

My best teacher

Hi, everyone. I'm Shinya.

I’d like to write about one of good teachers from secondary school.
He is an English teacher called Mr.Suga. He had a great influence on my life.

Firstly, Thanks to him, I made up my mind to study abroad.
Before I met him, I had disliked English and had poor marks for English. I thought in that time, why bother to study English when I was in Japan?
His teaching was not special and not especially different from other teachers. However, he made us think why we study English. He often said “Why are you studying English? The answer depends on people. Some people say we study it to pass the entrance examination, other people say it is useful for my job in the future. These are not wrong. But I want us to remember English is one of tools to communicate with other people.”
His word made me think about it seriously. Moreover, he went abroad to study when he was at university. He often told us his experience of study abroad. And when I asked some questions about English, he gave me a careful and detailed explanation. That’s why I grew to like it and I decided to go here to improve my English skill and communicate with lots of other countries’ people.

Secondly, he is also my club teacher. When I was president of music club, he supported me. He taught me not only English but also what I should do as president. In addition, he also loved classical music and he was well informed about it. We often talked about it and sometimes go to the concert with my club’s member. I really enjoyed it.

Therefore, I respect him. He is my best teacher on my life. I learned lots of things by him. If I hadn’t met him, I probably wouldn’t be here.

Thanks.
Shinya

My favorite teacher

Hi! I'm Hideki.

I know it has been a long time to write my blog...

Anyway, I'd like to write about my favorite teacher.
One of my favorite teachers is a history teacher called "Mr. Iwasawa."

He was my teacher whose subject was world history, and he was one of the most famous teacher in my high school.
The characteristic of his lecture was that he had never used any textbook during class.
Every time he did lectures, he taught students world history as a kind of long tale without any textbook. Therefore, his lectures always gave us real histories not like contents in a textbook.

He always had his notebooks made by himself for the lectures, it means that he always did his best to prepare to give us the best lectures. I was really impressed by his attitude toward the lectures and I became to love world history the best.

I still appreciate him with his great lectures because he taught me how to learn history and the fact that history is not just a content of a textbook but the actual events and it has still continuing everyday.

I like all teachers in my high school but that's a reason why I think he is one of the most favorite teachers I've ever met in my life.

My favourite city

I know this homework is really late, but better late than never.
I wanted to write about my favourite city.

My favourite city is GUANGZHOU.

Guangzhou is in the south of china near Hong Kong and it is a international city.

Guangzhou conducted asia Olympic game in 2010.
Guangzhou's local language is Cantonese and it is famous for its food like boat porridge and morning tea.

Boat porridge is called Boat Porridge because in the past, boats on the river near the city used to sell it to tourists and travellers. It was a popular food on the river. Gradually, the restaurants on land started to sell this kind of porridge and Boat Porridge became a familiar snack in locals’ life. Here's a picture of some:

Guangzhou has a lot of famous historical building and river like chenjiachi, xiguang and the Pearl River

When you have time, you should go there.
Thanks for reading.

A Favourite Teacher of Mine

Hi, I'm Rei.
I'd like to talk about a good teacher from secondly school.
When I was at secondly school, I met him. Because he was a main teacher of my class. And he is also good at teaching. He is a Maths teacher, and his teaching is clear and easy to understand.
I have to say, my grade of Maths was terrible! However, I enjoyed his lessons and liked to study Maths.
I know all of my class mates liked him.The reason why we liked him very much is that he is really honest to students. When I was in my final year, I had to decide which university I applied for. Unfortunately, I didn't get well with my parents at that time, I couldn't talk to anyone about that. Then, I asked him to help. He didn't refuse to spend a lot of time for me.
I found that he is always honest and accepts students. I think it is too difficult for most of people to consider others even it is job of teachers.
For that experience, I had classes for becoming a teacher at university. Although it is optional, I wanted to try.

PE teachers

Reina wrote about how much she hated her PE teacher - and it brought back memories of all my terrible PE teachers.

I was also reminded of a scene from a great English film from the 60s called KES, which features a brilliant scene of a monster PE teacher terrorising all his students.

Here is is.

My memories of teachers from school

The teachers that I more remember…

When I was in secondary school, I was very applied, but I don´t liked the teacher of physical education. The subject that more liked me it was the Chemistry for his teacher.

How was the teacher of physical education? He was a person angry, annoying and strict. So I don´t liked talk with he because I don’t found the words for a conversation, Also I don’t liked the sports. Once in the Class I did fell and my father went to the College for speak with the teacher about me.

From that day the teacher changed with but not was been good feeling. I always remember which the teacher that pressed me in my school.

The Best teacher was the teacher of Chemistry. She was a person friendly, creative, open and clever. Also, she knew that the Chemistry liked me, so I was her best student and she was a special person with me and always said that I was very clever for her subject, the mathematics and Biology. She was surprised when I decided study psychology...

Bye.

My Least Favorite Teacher

My least favorite teacher is math teacher at the secondly school.
He hated me because he thought I'm a bad boy.
And I also hated him.
I felt his class boring.
I thought absence was better than attending his class.
So I often was absent from his class.
It is the reason that I hated the math teacher and math!!

Favourite / least favourite teachers

This week, I'd like you all to try and write as much as you can about any teachers from secondary school (or university) that you have really good or bad memories of.

Tell us what you remember about them, why you liked - or didn't like - them, and what happened in their classes.

I had quite a few teachers I really didn't like. I went to a normal state secondary school - a free government school - and while some of my teachers were good, plenty weren't! There was a Geography teacher who had the nickname Johnny Headbanger - because he used to walk around the classroom while he was talking and every now and then, if he thought you weren't listening or paying enough attention, he'd grab your head (by the hair) and then bang it against the person next to you. It used to really hurt!

We also had a Chemistry teacher called Mr Leeds, who had a very short temper. Sometimes, while he was doing experiments, if students were talking, he used to throw things at them. One of my worst memories of secondary school was a kid in class called mark Rankin messing around at the back of the class, talking and being stupid, and Mr. Leeds throwing a metal late across the room at him. he threw it like a frisbee and it sliced Mark Rankin's head and then went through the window. The whole class was shocked and we sat there in silence. Mark Rankin's head was bleeding like crazy and we all waited to see what was going to happen next. Mr. Leeds then just said "Mark Rankin. Go and tell the headmaster why you broke that window" - and he then carried on with the experiment. Crazy!!

The best teacher I had at secondary school was a young English teacher called Sue Briggs. She was quite unusual in lots of different ways. Firstly, she insisted on us using her first name - Sue - instead of calling her MISS BRIGGS or whatever, so she was much more informal than most other teachers. She also treated us with respect and like adults, which made a big impression on me. She asked us for our opinions, listened to what we had to say and helped us develop our worldviews. She also loved literature and recommended lots of great books. She gave me a copy of CATCHER IN THE RYE, for example, by J.D. SALINGER, which totally changed my life. It wasn't something we had to study at school. She just thought I might like it and so gave me a copy.

When I started teaching, she was someone I often thought about and tried to be like.
I think that if it hadn't been for her, I probably wouldn't have become a teacher!

Looking forward to reading your stories.
Hugh
