I'm from Yokohama. I have lived there since birth. Yokohama is the capital city of Kanagawa Prefecture, which is in the south from Tokyo. It's a big port in the east of Kanagawa Prefecture and on the Tokyo Bay. It's the second largest city in japan by population after Tokyo and the population is about 3.7 million.
It's a modern city and has lots of modern buildings. One of its most famous buildings is Landmark Tower which is known for being the tallest building in Japan. The view from Landmark Tower is splendid. If the weather is good, you can look at Mt. Fuji.
It also has lots of loverly parks such as Yamashita Park. You can see lots of couple go out family go for a walk every weekend in this park. This park look out on the sea and it's good for you to relax, go for a walk and go on a date!!
In addition, There are many old buildings such as a bulding built of red brick in the 19th and early in the 20th century because Yokohama was one of the oldest cities that Japan opened a port to foreighn ships for trade in the 19th century, after then it quickly became the base of foreign trade in Japan and a global city, so there are many buildings under the influence of Western culture.
Yokohama have Yokohama Chinatown. It is the largest Chainatown in Japan and one of the largest in the world. There are lots of nice chinese restaurants and it is often really crowded. The number of Chinese shops and restaurants is about 250. It is the largest Chinatown not only in Japan but also in Asia. It is my favourite place, I often go out with my girlfriend for lunch.
Thanks.
Hi Shinya -
ReplyDeleteThanks for this.
I've never been to Yokohama and don't know much about it, apart from the fact some of the World Cup games were played there back in 2002.
It looks great from the photos you posted. I really like the mix of architecture - the old and new, the more Asian and the more European next to each other.
It must be great, being on the coast. I spent my teenage years near the sea and still really love the feel of the sea air, the smell of the sea, the sound of waves, that kind of thing. It really makes you feel alive, being close to the water.
The ChinaTown there looks amazing. When I was living in Jakarta, there was a big ChinaTown as well. It was like a city within a city. They used to have big snake markets there and that kind of thing. Really incredible.
When I go back to Jakarta to visit my in-laws, we always eat round there. The food is out of this world!
Thanks again for posting.
Really interesting stuff.
